Hello from the gardens, Well it's been awesome weather for those who like it hot..... super hot. Some crops are thriving and others looking very challenged. Which brings up a planting strategy of "don't put all your eggs in one basket".
So planting the same crop in a variety of locations, planting a number of different varieties even of the same crop. This helps adapt to the ever changeable conditions and can ensure that at least some of the plants will produce. Every year there always seems to be some crops that thrive and some can be a dismal failure. Thus at Thanksgiving we appreciate what abundance we have... cause there's no guarantee that you get anything!
First of the garlic is getting harvested now. It's not ready to "cure" but will be delicious for some early garlic. As well on the Market Order form is Haskaps, which you can come and pick your own as well.
Speaking of,
New Greens available: Lamb's quarters is very mild tasting raw, even when the plant is mature, and really does taste like spinach when cooked. We harvest its leaves from the time they are young shoots in late spring all the way through autumn. It's a powerhouse with 281% DV of vitamin A, 111% DV of vitamin C, 1112% DV of vitamin K, and 46% DV of calcium per one cup cooked.
Check out the link below for my favourite "lambs quarters pesto". Great to make with garlic scapes or the fresh garlic. I also like to use nutritional yeast instead of parmesan. Consider using a mixture of greens and herbs.

Reminder
We are not planning to open the Market Stand this season for a number of reasons. Our plan is to transition to a more interactive approach where we will not only offer online ordering but also facilitated U-Pick opportunities starting in July. Stay tuned!
We will continue offering the weekly order form option as the way to what's available from the greenhouse, outdoors and of course the hens. Thank You for supporting small scale growing and community.
