Farm Blog - Harvesting, winter prep & garlic planting

Hope you are enjoying the fluctuating days of fall. Happy to see the white stuff disappear for now. We are busy with harvesting all the cabbage, beets, carrots and greens. We're getting garlic ready for planting and would like to offer you the opportunity to learn & help. More about that below!

Available at Market
- great assortment of winter squash
- carrots
- beets
- slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes
- potatoes
- radish
- green tomatoes
- peppers, sweet and hot

Greens: new crop of arugula, assorted kale, swiss chard, beet greens, salad mix.

Apples: an apple a day......is making me feel really good!
Delicious Ida Red, Macintosh, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Liberty. Have you tried squash and apple soup? www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/butternut_squash_apple_soup Personally I never peel a raw squash (way too much work) so I roast them the night before (enjoy some for supper) and then the next day scoop the squash for soup. The apples add such a lovely layer of flavour to the soup (I use whatever apples happen to be on hand). It also freezes great for an easy meal anytime.

Garlic Planting
It's time. We have some excellent "root days" coming up October 26, 27th and 28th. We are working to get the soil ready and the garlic cracked (from bulb to cloves).

If you would like to come out and learn/experience how this happens please consider coming out for a couple of hours morning or afternoon of either day (Sat. Oct. 27th or Sun. Oct. 28th). Come dressed for the weather and we will have everything else. Even planning a bonfire and chili for lunch for those that are here. It would be great to hear if you are interested and when so we can plan our days. Email me at mogfarm@gmail.com.

Market Hours, Thurs. and Fri. we are closing at 6pm (cause it's dark) then in Nov. & Dec. we are open weekends.

Looking forward to seeing you,
All the best,
the Moondance Team
