Farm Blog - Fall on the farm

Hello from the gardens, it's as ever an interesting year. How lovely to get this mild break after having snow for a couple of days. We have been busy getting crops harvested, planting garlic and putting so many hoses and tarps away. More about what I have been up to at the bottom!

Last outdoor Sat. market, Nov. 7th! 11am-5pm
Drop by to see our end of season goodies like green onions, winter squash, beets, cherry tomatoes, lunch box peppers, tomatillos and lots of potatoes, kale and chard. Some golden delicious apples but the fruit season has ended sadly.

Lots of eggs available for orders and free choice from black fridge on our deck.

Online orders available for Tues. Thurs. Sat. pickups
Order dates set up through to the new year. For available veg, honey and lots of eggs as well as the other wonderful items we carry. As I have more time I will get more items available in the store.

4M Farms, delicious meats for order
Mike has agreed to drop off prepaid orders every Wed. here at the farm. We will keep them available in the freezer for pickup that week. Check out www.4mfarms.ca for what's available and details.

What we do during the "winter" is always a question many are curious. It takes us untill the end of Nov. to have the gardens cleaned up and planted to a cover green crop (winter rye usually), we still need to get the garlic mulched and finish planting the greenhouse for the winter. Seed and seedling orders need to be prepared and sent, animal pens need to be cleaned out and maybe we'll even get to cleaning the house!
I also have two other jobs that absorb my time and energy.
Urban Pantry www.urbanpantrybarrie.com is a non profit food focused organization that is lead by Canadian Mental Health. I am fortunate to be able to work to help increase gardening in Barrie. Just yesterday I coordinated additional gardens being built at the Shear Park community gardens and am planning for another build next week at a Barrie Housing apartment building. We have 3 large gardens going in next spring!

Bliss Nautrals, years ago a wonderful friend and I started making all natural skin care products. This has evolved and adapted (as you do these days) to offering take home kits with base supplies and directions. We are currently offering kits to make your own Face & Body Cream, Foot Cream and Foaming Hand and Body Soap. Check out www.facebook.com/followyourblissnaturally

I hope this finds you well and here's to finding positive ways to adapt and support one another. We so appreciate all the community support we have experienced this season as our goal is to be here to support our community.

Wishing you the very best,
Kim & Tom
