Farm Blog - Market Message, Harvest days, Changing days

Happy September, I hope you have fared well with some of the big weather that we've been having and have enjoyed this lovely long weekend. I've been enjoying all the Monarch butterflies gathering nectar and strength for their big upcoming journey and the spectacular hummingbirds enjoying our Rose of Sharon bush.

This bush is so lovely and great food for the hummingbirds. Check out the picture.
I have an abundance of seedlings of this shrub and will have some available at pickup and some potted for sale at our market on the 26th.

The gardens continue to be abundant with some crops ending and others ripening. Zucchini is now done for the season as well as the small pickling cucumbers and kohlrabi. Starting next week we'll have slicing tomatoes and sweet peppers back on the available list

New this week are Lemon cucumbers - a heritage, round, yellow cucumber that has a hint of lemon. We have a good supply of curly parsley now and it should be available well into the colder time of the season.

New crop of dill and cilantro are up and will be available in a couple of weeks.
The Roma green beans are probably available for another week or two at best, but there's so many lovely beans in the greenhouse we should have them for another month!

This is the time of garden abundance and a great time to eat what you can, freeze, can or dry what you can.

Beans and cucumbers as well as Rainbow Chard and Kale are in abundance this week.

Kale and Chard are on sale for $3.50/200g bunch. So great to freeze some for the winter and I love the chard stalks as celery.

There's round green beans, then the tasty Roma flat green beans and a lovely round yellow pole bean ready.
Each size $1 off

Then there's cucumbers, with so many different types. The pickling cucumbers, field cucumbers, white martini cucumbers, english cucumbers and middle eastern (like a half size english).
- Field cucumbers are still on sale this week!

What a delicious time of year.
A sweet treat is that there's a fresh harvest of honey. Now available 330g jar - $10, 500g jar - 13 and 1kg jar - $25

The delicious fruit this year from Palentines orchard is coming to an end.

A few items still available in limited supply, White Lady peaches, Black Amber plums and orange fleshed Nectarines.

Hopefully apples in the next week or two!
